Working to protect, conserve and manage New Zealand’s unique biodiversity is an enormous, challenging and rewarding task. Many agencies, groups, organisations and individuals play a vital role, both formal and informal, paid and voluntary, private and public. You will find information on this broad spectrum of people involved in this section. Some of the key players were identified in the New Zealand Biodiversity Strategy, released in February 2000. Among them are four central government agencies which have been funded NZ$187 million over the five years to 2005 to co-ordinate 20 programmes to help achieve the strategy’s outcomes. This section also links you to some of the key players outside central government who are helping to turn the tide and halt the decline of New Zealand’s unique native biodiversity. |
