Guidance about biodiversity on private land

Many native plants, animals and their habitats in New Zealand’s land and freshwater ecosystems are under threat from human activities and encroachment, and unwanted introduced organisms such as possums and deer.

The government funds programmes under the New Zealand Biodiversity Strategy, aimed at halting the decline of indigenous biodiversity and protecting valuable introduced biodiversity on land and freshwater.

The Ministry for the Environment and the Department of Conservation are working on a programme of guidance about biodiversity protection on private land.
